About The Event

WAIVER <-------- MUST READ

This weekend is to prepare you for future backpacking trips where you go into the backcountry with limited to no cell service, no running water, isolated and remote campsites, and other wilderness obstacles. Please come prepared as if you were going on a back country trip. Even though we will not be far from our vehicles because we are in Prince William Forest Park, do not rely on access to your vehicles. Pack everything you need in your weekend, multi-day, or extended trip back pack. Please note that backpacking packs are meant to hold all your supplies for your trip, so these packs are not to be confused with a regular day pack or school back pack. Please see the link to find more information about choosing a backpacking pack. How to choose the right backpack.

We will camp at one campsite on Friday, participate in a group hike, and then trek over to the next campsite to set up for Saturday night. Sunday morning we will make the trek back from our second campsite to our cars. Not only is this event meant to educate, but it is also mean to be fun. New or experienced hiker/camper/backpackers coming together for a great learning adventure in a setting that is not to desolate.

There will also be a Ancient Art Movement Dance taught on Saturday for those who are interested, by a licensed dance instructor!

Here is a list of Backpacking Essentials for those who are completely new to backpacking.

You will also want to consider food. There is no refrigeration on backpacking trips. So you can look into Freeze Dried Foods that can be prepared over a open fire.

Consider the weather. Camping happens in rain, snow, and heat. If there is rain expected that weekend, please make sure you prepare with rain covers or tarps. Also, since we are going in July, prepare for heat. Pack an appropriate amount of water for yourself.

Participants may be required to carry small amounts of additional supplies that are for the group.

Make sure you bring all necessary medications and health items you will need for the trip.

All sales are final. This event will not be canceled due to weather conditions unless Prince William Forest Park declares it unsafe to be in the park.

What is covered in the cost? The cost of this event covers the stay at the two campsites we will be staying at plus the cost of admission to the park. Additionally group wood supplies for campsites.
